OVERNIGHT FLAKY BISCUITS

Freshly baked homemade pastry is one of the best things in life. And biscuits, a lovely, soft snack, are always welcome. Usually split down the middle and enjoyed with sweet or savoury fillings, they are so very soft and fluffy, with a gorgeous crispy and crunchy exterior. The ingredients are simple, but the baked biscuits are very delicious, as all old-fashioned pastries are.

They are very easily tailored; you can make them larger, by dividing the dough into six or less pieces, so they can be a fantastic version of burger buns. You can also make them smaller, and serve them with dips, or as sliders. They are amazing with marinara sauce, and all cheese-based sauces, as well as tangy jams and clotted cream.

                                                          Ingredients
400 grams soft bread flour
2 teaspoons dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
120 ml light olive oil
250 ml tepid water
100 grams butter, softened

                                                         Preparation

Sift the flour twice, add in the yeast and the salt, and make a little well in the middle. Pour in the oil and water, and stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough starts to form, then knead with your hands for 5-10 minutes, until you get a smooth and elastic dough that doesn't stick to your hands. Depending on the flour, you might need to add a tablespoon or two more, if the dough sticks too much to your hands. Once the dough is smooth and ready, oil the bowl, place the dough in, oil the dough surface, then tightly cover it with cling film, and let it rise overnight in the refrigerator.

After the dough has slowly risen, knead it briefly or a floured work surface, then roll it out to a very large rectangle - as large as your work surface allows you. Take one half of the softened butter, and spread it evenly over the entire dough surface. Fold the dough in half, then spread the other half of the butter evenly. Fold the dough in half again, very lightly roll it out, just to thin it out to about 1.5 cm, then cut it into eight square biscuits. Place them on a large baking sheet lined with baking parchment, let them rest for about 15-20 minutes, then bake in a preheated oven, at 200°C (400°F), for 18-20 minutes. Serve warm. Yields 8 large biscuits.

it has a neat and nice taste

A Fight Is Breaking Out Over Bitcoin Cash – And It Just Might Split the Code.

With bitcoin cash developers at each other throats, the year-old cryptocurrency might just split into two.

Created from a hard fork off the original bitcoin network after the scaling debate boiled over last year, bitcoin cash stakeholders seemed unified in their goal of boosting the cryptocurrency's block size parameter in the hopes of attracting more users and enabling more transactions.

But a few cracks started to pop up in this united front over the past year, as bitcoin cash developers had one technical disagreement after another.

And a new software release by leading bitcoin cash implementation, Bitcoin ABC, has been perceived by some as a subtle declaration of war within the developer community.

The software includes a suite of upgrades, including a smart contract feature that would support atomic swaps, a way of trading one cryptocurrency for another without traditional exchanges. And while many cryptocurrency projects are excited about the idea of interoperable coins, some big names in the bitcoin cash community don't agree with the changes and have – no surprise – been very vocal about it.

Leading the opposition is Craig Wright, nChain CEO and the cryptographer who claims to be bitcoin's pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto, though he's not provided any proof of this claim so far. And he's teamed up with Calvin Ayre, an entrepreneur and founder of crypto news site CoinGeek, to lead the resistance with a new bitcoin cash implementation called Bitcoin SV.

Bitcoin SV scraps Bitcoin ABC's scripts for its own – as well as pushes the block size parameter to 128 MB (bitcoin cash's block size is currently at 32 MB).

S they'd like to see activated.

This voting system, he hopes, will help resolve not only this caustic debate but also similar situations in the future.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Cobra announced a similar effort called the Cobra Client. But rather than allow users to vote, the client simply removes all contentious code changes and replaces them with replay protection, a code change that will protect users from accidentally losing their money in the case bitcoin cash does indeed split into two.

China Seeks to Block Access to 124 Foreign Crypto Exchanges.

Chinese regulators are moving to block more than 100 overseas crypto exchanges offering trading services to domestic investors.

Shanghai Securities Times, a mouthpiece of the Chinese financial authorities, reported on Thursday that the China National Fintech Risk Rectification Office has so far identified 124 trading platforms with overseas IP addresses but that are still available in the country.

The office now plans to step up its efforts in monitoring the space and to block internet access to these trading platforms, the report said.

Authorized in 2016 by China's State Council, the National Fintech Risk Rectification Office is a government agency that aims to protect against financial risk related to issues like peer-to-peer lending and cryptocurrency trading.

In September 2017, the People's Bank of China notably announced a rule banning initial coin offerings (ICOs) and, in effect, crypto trading platforms in the country. Following the notice, major exchanges based in China at the time moved their businesses overseas.

Currently, internet access to several major exchanges such as Binance, OKEx, and Bitfinex appears to be unavailable in China.

Today's report also said the agency will permanently shut down domestic websites and official accounts on the WeChat messaging app if they are found to be providing crypto trading and ICO services.

The agency is also in talks with third-party payments vendors that are required to scrutinize and halt accounts that are suspected of handling cryptocurrency transactions, the report added.

Just two days ago, several Chinese cryptocurrency media outlets were banned from operating on WeChat.

WeChat's owner Tencent confirmed with news source Caixin on Wednesday that the ban was instigated because the accounts were found to have provided crypto trading and ICO services. Some of them were ordered to shut down permanently, the report said.

Canadian Government Launches Ethereum Block Explorer.

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) has launched a blockchain explorer built on Ethereum. According to a news release, the organization said the blockchain explorer application, dubbed Catena, was developed by Bitaccess and will be hosted by its Industrial Research Assistance Program on the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS).

This makes the hosted data always accessible and immutable, as it’s not organized in one location, which could subject it to site failure or access issues. According to Bitaccess, the explorer application is similar to a search engine, and it allows users to instantly “search the Ethereum blockchain” for “published grants and contribution data” stored on the network through Catena.

Moe Adham, co-founder of Bitaccess, in a statement said, “We built the Catena Blockchain Suite as a simple, low risk, application for institutions to get introduced to blockchain technology. So far the reception has been terrific”.

Using the IPFS function, users will be afforded a “peer-to-peer method of storing and sharing data” in a distributed method that makes them “unalterable” and preserved “far into the future” long after the original web host has gone offline.

The NRC statement read in part:

“These are early days, but NRC IRAP’s experiments with blockchain are expected to provide constructive insight into the potential for this technology and how it may be used for more open and transparent operations for public programs.”

Earlier this year, the NRC launched the Canadian government’s first live trial of public blockchain technology with the aim of building a transparent administration of government grants and contributions.

At the time of the launch, the government was able to use the blockchain to publish information on “new and amended Contribution Agreements with firms in real time.” Adham says his company’s goal is to help institutions “become fully transparent” and help constituents participate in the “verification and validation of public information.

Reports: Real Madrid prepare a stunning late swoop for Cristiano Ronaldo replacement

What's the rumour?

Having endured a relatively tame transfer window this summer, Florentino Perez is willing to go all out to bolster Real Madrid's squad for the upcoming challenges.

According to ASLos Blancos will do their utmost to land Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe if Les Parisiens are punished by UEFA for Financial Fair Play violations. Mbappe's one-year loan to PSG will expire on August 27, and although PSG have an option to buy him for €180 million, they won't be able to accomplish the deal if the club is found guilty of FFP violations.

In case you didn't know...

Paris Saint-Germain are currently being investigated by UEFA over money paid into the club in the form of sponsorship. The Parisian club's finances came under intense scrutiny in 2017 thanks to the world-record signing of Neymar from Barcelona, which was followed by a loan transfer of Kylian Mbappe, with an option to sign him in a deal valued at €180 million.

The ruling of UEFA's appeals committee will arrive at the end of August, which could hand PSG a serious punishment, who have already been penalized in 2014 for breaking the FFP rules.

The heart of the matter

Real Madrid are yet to fill the massive void left by Cristiano Ronaldo even though they have been linked with a host of big names since the Portuguese's departure.

Consequently, Perez has now set his sights on the talented Mbappe, who caught the eye of several high-profile clubs by virtue of his sterling performances in the World Cup that paved the way for France national team.

Rumour rating/probability: 7/10

The report comes from a decent source, and should UEFA coerce PSG into selling Mbappe, the Spanish giants will definitely be waiting in the wings with a ridiculous offer for the 19-year-old.

What's next?

UEFA's ruling is expected to arrive on 30 August, and if it is against PSG, Real Madrid's president Florentino Perez will only have 24 hours to finalize what could be a world-record deal.

5 ways in which Guardiola has improved Manchester City

In January 2016, Manchester City had announced that after chasing and flirting for about 3 years, the object of their desire; Pep Guardiola had agreed to join the club as a replacement for Chilean Manuel Pellegrini.

In the two and half seasons since he has been in Manchester, Guardiola has completely changed the team from a band of players loosely put together at great cost, to an efficient, entertaining team that looks set to be at the top for a long time. The Spaniard has looked at home at the Etihad Stadium and looks set to stay there for a long time (something he has never done in his career).

The team’s effervescence, attitude and breathtaking football thrilled the Premier League last season and they have started the 2018/2019 season like a house on fire.

Here is a look at how Guardiola has gone about delivering on his remit of making the Citizens a powerhouse:

#5 He has improved the players he met

When the Catalan genius took over at the Etihad in 2016, he met a huge problem. The City side he inherited was one that was in decline with the oldest average age (30.5) in the league.

While there were still talented players in the team, the lack of a defined style of play and the issues with age made them look hapless and undynamic in Pellegrini's last two seasons at the club.

Pep came in and has revitalized some players he met, and they have gone on to become important members of the team. Before Guardiola's arrival, Raheem Sterling had looked like a lost boy, David Silva no longer looked capable to delivering, Yaya Toure had slowed down badly, Nicolas Otamendi was a joke and Fabian Delph barely played for the team.

It took a while but last season, Sterling really took off to show why £50m was spent to get him in from Liverpool. Otamendi was voted as one of the best defenders in the league, Silva rediscovered the magic of old and has once again become Merlin. Meanwhile Delph became an auxiliary left back (due to Benjamin Mendy's injury) and did so well that he made England's World Cup squad.

#4 His ruthlessness in clearing the deadwood

In his very first season as coach of City, Guardiola noted just how much dross the team had. While football director Txiki Begiristain has done well since the Catalan manager arrived, the former Barcelona director made a lot of questionable buys during the Pellegrini era.

Guardiola tried to work with what he had in his first season while adding a bit of quality. He tried Aleksander Kolarov as a centre-back, gave game time to Fernando and tried to utilize Jesus Navas better as a right back but these players just couldn't deliver on what he and the team needed.

Showing the same ruthlessness he had when he became Barcelona manager and got rid of the likes of Ronaldinho, Deck, Samuel Eto'o, Guardiola started his 2nd season in Manchester like an avenging fury. Out went Willy Caballero, Bacary Sagna, Kolarov, Gael Clichy, Navas, Fernando among others.

The result was that in one transfer window, he reduced the team's average age (28.4 the previous season) and added quality young players (average age of 26.8) to the side. The Citizens side that won the league last season was a million years away from the 2016/2017 iteration as they were faster, fitter, more intelligent and executed the coach's instructions better.

#3 His man-management has been top-notch

This is one of the areas that Guardiola has most improved the Manchester City side and it has shown in the results.

Before he came in, a lot of the current top players were playing way below their capacity and basically going through the motions. His work on the training ground and motivation (examples of which can be seen in the #AllOrNothing documentary) has helped the players and therefore, the team, play better.

A prime example is Raheem Sterling. Thanks to his "bold" decision to leave Liverpool and the manner in which he left, the Jamaican-born England star had been hounded by constant media negativity. His every performance for both club and country was dissected and analyzed to death.

The manager put his arm around the player and gave him the confidence boost needed. This resulted in Sterling delivering his best ever goals tally last season.

Despite having to deal with the premature birth of his son, thanks to Guardiola's clever management, David Silva still played a pivotal role last season for City.

Otamendi was another one who was struggling a lot before Guardiola came in. The Argentine had been imperious at Valencia and was brought to Manchester for £32m in 2015.

However, he struggled badly given the lack of a defined pattern of play and looked uncomfortable defensively. He struggled less in Guardiola's first season but was imperious last season, this saw him selected for the Premier League's Team of The Season.

#2 Installing a clearly defined style of play

Perhaps the most important thing that Guardiola has done since he arrived in Manchester was properly defining things.

Like every other human being, players need a structure within which they can perform at their most optimum level. Already renowned for his emphasis on quick passing, intelligence, and control, he has brought his philosophy to bear on the team.

Derided by some rather unintelligent English pundits for his emphasis on a ball-playing goalkeeper, he has been justified. While the Claudio Bravo experiment was an absolute failure, the arrival of Ederson in his second season uplifted the team.

When John Stones came in for severe criticism for his errors at the back which led to lots of goals in the 2016/2017 season, his manager stuck to his guns and encouraged the Englishman to continue what he was doing. The result was a vastly improved 2017/2018 season for the former Everton player.

Every player in the Manchester City now understands clearly what the coach wants and their roles in the setup. Even a legendary striker like Sergio Aguero has had to adapt his style of play to fit in better and he has been rewarded by an amazing run of goal scoring under the former Bayern Munich manager.

#1 He has gotten transfers right

The best thing that he has done since he has been at City, the transfer work under his watch has been largely flawless.

Unlike the mess at Old Trafford, players have been bought with a specific plan in mind. In his first season, John Stones, Nolito, Bravo, Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane, and Gabriel Jesus (in January) were brought for £192m in to fix specific needs; Bravo was brought in to be a sweeper-keeper, Gundogan a creative presence, Jesus was supposed to complement Aguero and so on.

Ultimately, Nolito and Bravo proved to be disappointments as the title challenge faltered very early in Guardiola's first season. In his second season, Ederson, Kyle Walker, Mendy, Danilo, Bernardo Silva and Aymeric Laporte (January) were added for £285m and these players have helped in taking the team to its present level.

This season, only Riyad Mahrez was added for £60m as the sterling work over the last two seasons continued. Given the team's potent mix of youthful vigour and experience, Manchester City are well placed to continue taking care of business for the foreseeable future.

What Jose Mourinho Must Learn From Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United

It is well known that Jose Mourinho is on borrowed time at Manchester United, especially with Manchester City playing so well and even Liverpool looking like they can mount a decent Premier League title challenge.

The fact that United are being written off with just two games of the season played and after just one defeat tells its own story. Mourinho was clearly given a vote of no confidence by the board in the transfer market and the players' dissent towards him (think of Paul Pogba's cryptic interview) shows things are not right at Old Trafford.

Of course, United fans are used to this. Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013, it has all gone downhill. Countless articles have been written on what David Moyes and Louis van Gaal did wrong and, in some ways, Mourinho is repeating those mistakes.

He has alienated the players (particularly big-name stars) and creating a culture of fear and negativity among the players. Perhaps justifiably, Mourinho has come in for a lot of stick and criticism from the ex-players and pundits, though perhaps the answers to United's problems are actually a lot simpler than most people think.

All they have to do is to return to the tactics and strategies that served them so well in the Sir Alex Ferguson era. Whether Mourinho chooses to do this is a different matter, given how famously stubborn and rigid he can be.

Whereas Mourinho seems to create a culture of fear among the players, making them scared to attack and jittery in defence, Sir Alex created a culture of fear among the opposition. It's often been cited that before opponents played United (particularly at Old Trafford) that they were beaten before the game had even started.

It's no wonder when you were facing a team full of stars such as Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and Rio Ferdinand. The names Pogba, Alexis Sanchez, and Romelu Lukaku don't command quite the same level of fear.

These days when a team plays United it seems that if they want it more then they will be victorious no matter how inferior they may be. This has certainly been the case with Brighton and, on many other occasions, during Mourinho's tenure (Sevilla, Huddersfield etc.).

What tactics can Mourinho employ?

The fear factor is just not there anymore. How can Mourinho restore that?

Again the answer is easy, go back towards what served the club so well in the past. Under Sir Alex Ferguson, from a purely tactical point of view, he would opt for a traditional 4-4-2 formation most times.

He was always a fan of at least two strikers up front. It's no wonder given some of the attacking partnerships he's had over the years - Rooney and Ronaldo, Cole and Yorke, Rooney and Van Persie, the list goes on.

On other occasions, he would go for a 4-3-3, in particular during the 2007/08 season when he had Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez all firing goals in. That kind of forward line put fear into the opposition.

Conversely, Mourinho is more in favour of a solitary striker up front, often Lukaku. However, he has plenty of forwards to make reverting to a more old-school formation like 4-4-2 or an attacking 4-3-3 feasible and it would do a lot of good for United's morale and for the fans as well.

It would address a lot of United's issues, which are mainly in the attacking department. Last season, United were even outscored by a struggling, sixth-placed Arsenal in the Premier League which shows just how modest their goals return was.

Mourinho needs to approach games like Sir Alex

That covers the changes that need to be made from a purely tactical point of view, but there clearly also needs to be a change in approach. The biggest criticism of Mourinho when judging him against Sir Alex is that his brand of football is anathema to the club's traditions and that criticism may actually be warranted.

Under Sir Alex, the emphasis was on United to attack, which explains the number of comeback victories that they enjoyed. They would blow teams away and particularly enjoyed continued success against the smaller sides, simply because they could not cope with United's attacking resources.

United's attacking approach under Ferguson paid dividends and they often enjoyed extended unbeaten runs against sides - they went 11 years unbeaten against Spurs between 2001 and 2012. It's hard to imagine that sort of run ever happening against anyone these days, particularly against a team of the quality of Tottenham Hotspur.

Even though he probably won't, Mourinho needs to go back to United's attacking principles and actually look to attack teams rather than sit on a one-goal lead and play with one striker up front. If he went for a more attacking approach, then perhaps that would give more confidence to his players, the majority of whom look like they are playing with very little confidence right now.

If Mourinho listened to this advice, it might actually be enjoyable to watch United again and it's been a long time since it was actually exciting to watch the Reds.

11 Ways To Make Your Long-Term Marriage Happier, Starting Today

                                             HELP TIPS FOR COUPLES

The honeymoon period in most marriages has a shelf life. But does that mean you can’t bring back those fluttery butterfly feelings of excitement and anticipation everyone experiences at the beginning of a relationship? Absolutely not. All marriages maneuver through rough patches. Some don’t survive long enough to come out the other side unscathed. But many do. Here are 11 ways to keep your marriage fresh.

1. Remind your partner (and yourself) that you appreciate them.

After you’ve been married for many, many years, that passionate kiss when your partner walks in the door can easily morph into a peck on the check that can then morph into an inability even to look up from your computer. Over the course of my 23-year marriage, there are times when I’ve felt my own husband and I were starting to become so familiar with each other that we were settling into a stultifying — albeit comfortable — routine. But there’s a real danger in that. Studies show that nearly half of men who have cheatedsay it was because of emotional dissatisfaction — and not sex. When men don’t feel connected or appreciated by their wives, they are vulnerable to the advances of any attractive woman who casts a lustful glance their way. And fellows, it works the other way as well.

In his film “Annie Hall,” Woody Allen charged that “a relationship is like a shark. It has to constantly move forward or it dies.” I believe he was right.

2. Say thank you for the little things.

I’ve been guilty of keeping score, constantly calculating who had done what. “I cleaned out the kids’ closets, so you have to clean the basement.” “I moved for your job when we first got married, so now you need to move for mine.” “I initiated sex last time, so now it’s your turn.” But playing tit for tat is childish and will do nothing but chip away at the trust and connection you’ve built with your spouse. If you are so inclined, keep score of all the positive things your partner does in a day — and then thank them. Hopefully they’ll get the hint and do the same for you.

3. Practice honesty, even when you’re ashamed.

If you have maxed out a credit card or two and find yourself hiding the bills each month, you can bet it’s going to come back to bite you. Eventually, whether you’re applying for a home loan or simply talking about the costs of summer vacation, these kinds of money issues will either be brought to light by a credit report or by the simple fact you can’t afford a trip away. Although infidelity usually happens in bed, it also can happen with money. And it will be a tough road gaining back your spouse’s trust if you’ve lied about overspending.

Along that same vein, if you feel you aren’t connecting with your partner the way you used to, you need to say something — now. I’ve learned this lesson the hard way. I once let communication issues fester for months on end, failing to verbalize my displeasure, and my husband and I wound up in marriage counseling for nearly a year. It took a third party — and a real investment on our part — to get us back on track. If I had not kept telling myself that things would get better on their own, we might not have reached what I call the danger zone.

4. Take care of your appearance.

With many years and a few kids under your belt, it’s easy to let your appearance slide. Think about when you first met your partner. Would you have walked around in stained sweatpants and without brushing your teeth? My guess is no. I’m not saying you have to look like Julianne Moore every time you settle in for a night of TV. But I’ve seen too many couples transform from Cliff and Clair Huxtable into Dan and Roseanne Connor — with disastrous repercussions.

Sometimes my husband will say “wow, you look nice” as I’m walking out the door for a girls’ night out. At least pay your spouse the same courtesy you do your friends by fixing yourself up for him or her every once in awhile.

5. Foster relationships outside your marriage.

I’ve been going on girls’ trips for as long as I’ve been married. Yes, I love traipsing off with my spouse and three kids. But these weekends away with friends are also important. Swapping stories with others and enjoying new experiences make me — I hope — a more interesting person for my spouse to be around. When Katie Couric asked Barbra Streisand the secret to her happy 14-year marriage to James Brolin, she replied “time apart.” “It gets romantic because even the conversations on the phone get more romantic. You need some distance,” Streisand said.

Your marriage should be your primary relationship — but it needn’t be the only one.

6. Watch your words.

There are many things you should never say to a longtime spouse, the first being: “Don’t you think our new neighbor is attractive?” That’s a question you just think you want to know the answer to. It’s also never a good idea to start a sentence with: “You know it’s always been your problem that...” Who wants to hear that from their partner? We hopefully all have a pretty good sense of ourselves at this point and having someone you love point out a failing in this way does little to engender a loving relationship.

“You always...” or “You never...” Think about it. Neither of these is true. If you start a sentence with these words your mate is certain to shut down or start a fight. Stop for a minute and think about what you really mean to say — and then say that instead.

7. Put away the jumper cables yourself.

In life, there are big things and there are little things. The big things — draining the bank accounts to support a gambling habit, forgetting to mention that he’s in the federal witness relocation program living under a false identity or that he has a second family stashed in Queens — are of course one-way streets to divorce court. But most of us don’t have problems of that magnitude. Most of us have problems that are more like petty and repeated annoyances, which when fed the steroids of resentment and anger, balloon up like Arnold Schwarzenegger. And we all know what steroids did to his heart, right?

Most of our problems start out small enough — he borrows the jumper cables from your car and then leaves them sitting in the driveway just waiting to get run over — and from that sprouts a giant festering sore. It leads you to utter words like, “If you loved me you would have put the jumper cables back in my car so that when I get stuck in a bad neighborhood with a dead battery I could save myself,” which, in my household, generally results in a reply like “When do you ever drive in bad neighborhoods?”

It is the small annoyances that, if left unaddressed, do us in. For a happier marriage, address them right away and keep it simple. “Honey, did you put jumper cables back in my car?”

8. Relish the silence.

Sometimes the best way to address a problem is to just walk away from it — as in seriously let it go. Not every slight must be addressed. Know that not every insult is intended. Practice letting go as much as you can. Forgive more. Forget more. Bite your tongue until the tip bleeds. And once in a while, remind yourself of why you married this person. Focus on those reasons and let stuff pass without mention.

The trick to successful silence, however, is that you really let the problem pass. If you stay silent and still harbor bad thoughts, well, that’s where ulcers come from. As the Beatles told us, “Let It Be.”

9. Recognize the ebb-and-flow.

Relationships aren’t flat-lined; that’s death, actually. Life has ups and downs, peaks and valleys. We all go through periods where the mere thought of life without our partners can bring tears to our eyes and then a week later we can’t stand the sound of their breathing next to us. We’ve all been there. The trick is knowing that you won’t stay in either place forever. Truth is, in a marriage, you spend most of your time in an emotional middle ground. It’s not songbirds chirping, nor is it considering which poison in his pasta will cause the most painful demise.

This middle ground isn’t the couple who sit in the restaurant across from one another without conversing. Those people have actually flat-lined and just don’t know it yet. No, the middle ground is when months meld into years and you know what the reaction will be before you say something. It’s when the book you finished last night just migrates automatically to the nightstand on his side and he tells you about the recorded “Modern Family” episode you slept through. It’s the every day ebb and flow without the waves.

10. Be kind.

We tend to take advantage of those we love the most — probably because we know they love us and we can get away with it. It’s the old kick-the-cat syndrome. You have a bad day at the office and come home and take it out on your mate. A much healthier pattern is to start out each day by asking yourself, “What can I do today to make my partner happy?” And mean it. Doesn’t it make more sense to put your best face on for someone you love? Look for ways to say “yes.” This rule applies to parenting as well, but in a happy marriage, people are busy trying to please each other. That sometimes means sitting through endlessly long ball games, putting on a tie, watching a horror movie with your eyes closed, and traveling around old Civil War battleground sites when you really wanted to be vacationing on a beach in Hawaii. It’s doing things for your partner.

11. Maintain intimacy and passion, both inside and outside the bedroom.

Intimacy isn’t just sex and passion isn’t just doing it on the kitchen counter. Bedroom habits age along with the marriage. There may be no stronger aphrodisiac than a moonlight walk on the beach that ends in a kiss. There may be no greater display of passion than the zeal of a partner in a hospital room trying to get the nurse’s attention for an ailing wife. Don’t let others define what is a “normal” or “healthy” amount of sex for your marriage. Know that things change, but that doesn’t make them less exciting or fun. And intimacy comes in many shapes, including conversation and cuddling.

LETS SPICE UP OUR MARRIAGE

Alleged SIM Swapper Teen Purchased Luxury Cars with Stolen Bitcoin

Law enforcement officials in California have arrested another hacker accused of stealing cryptocurrency by hijacking phone numbers.

19-year old Xzavyer Narvaez has been charged with seven counts of computer crimes, identity fraud, and grand theft.

According to the report, Narvaez had spent some of the Bitcoin made on luxury cards. The police found a 2018 McLaren purchased by Narvaez in part with Bitcoin and partly by trading-in a 2012 Audi R8 through his DMV records. Investigators also obtained his records from Bitcoin payment provider BitPay and cryptocurrency exchange Bittrex, where they discovered a flow of 156 Bitcoin (worth $1 million), according to a court document. This new arrest comes on the heels of that of Joel Ortiz who is accused

of hijacking phone numbers to steal Bitcoin from victims in a first-of-its-kind crime earlier this year.

Investigators got on Narvaez’s trail when they found a cellphone used by Ortiz had, at some point, logged into Narvaez’s Gmail account. AT&T also provided the authorities with the unique identifying numbers of the cell phones used to take down the victim’s phone numbers, the coordinates of the phone towers they connected to and Narvaez’s call records. The information revealed Narvaez’s phone was connected to the same cell tower at the same time, as one of the phones used to SIM swap victims.

Hijacking phones, also known as SIM swapping or “port out scam” is a process of leading a telecoms provider into transferring a target’s phone number to a SIM card held by the hacker. Once they receive the new phone number, an attacker can use it to reset the victim’s passwords and break into their accounts, including e-mails and accounts on cryptocurrency exchanges.

The tactics employed by criminals perpetrating this fraud varies. Some attackers social engineer customer service agents of telecoms providers into believing they are the target. Others use, “plugs,” insiders within the telecom company who get paid for carrying out the illegal swap.

Last week, American investor Michael Terpin filed a $224 million lawsuit against AT&T claiming that he had lost $24 million worth of cryptocurrencies as a result of two separate hacks that occurred over a period of seven months. Terpin is currently seeking a $200 million punitive damages and $24 million in compensation from AT&T.

10 ways to make your relationship work

You can’t force a person to love you, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t things that you can do to help things along a little bit. This isn’t about playing manipulative mind games with a person, it’s about helping someone who you love realise just how much they love you. If you’d like your partner to love you even more, and to show it, read these ten tips that will help open up his eyes to just how much he really does love you.

1. Don’t try so hard

The very fact that you are reading this might be an indication that perhaps you are just trying too hard. Ease back a bit, give him some space and don’t keep expecting him to tell you how much he loves you. Men don’t like being put under pressure and his love for you will grow much quicker, if he is left to make that decision for himself.

2. Make him laugh a lot

The more you make him laugh, the more he’s going to want to spend time with you. Men are no different from women in this respect, if you have fun with someone, you will become more and more attached to them. Be prepared to make fun of yourself too. It’s much easier to love someone who does not take themselves, or life, too seriously.

3. Let him see the real you

It’s great fun putting on the makeup and getting dressed in your best outfits for a guy, but don’t be afraid to look natural sometimes too. He will appreciate it when you make the effort to look great for a night out, but he also wants to get to know the real you. You don’t need to impress him all the time; it’s the person that he will learn to love more, not the makeup and the designer clothes.

4. Show him that you are independent

How is he going to know how much he would miss you, if you are always there at his beck and call? He should know that you have a life outside of the relationship and you should go out with your friends sometimes. There’s no harm at all in him knowing that you can be independent, it will actually make him want you all the more.

5. Get to know the things that he likes

Although there is no point in you pretending that you have become a football fan overnight, you could take an interest in some of the things that he likes to do. If he is a sports fan, you could sit and watch a game with him instead of disappearing off into another room or, at the very least, ask him who won. He will really appreciate it if you take an interest in his hobbies and pastimes.

6. Give him compliments

If you are in a relationship with a guy, then he already knows that you like him, but he’d still like to get some complements sometimes. Tell him when you think he’s done something well, or let him know that you like the way he looks in his new clothes. Everyone likes to receive compliments, so don’t hold back. Who wouldn’t fall in love with someone who flatters them and makes them feel good about themselves?

7. Get along with his friends and family

You can’t guarantee that you will adore all of his family, or that you will like all of his friends, but you should do your level best to get along with them. Being nice to his friends and his family is sign of respect for your partner and he will love you for making the effort, even if you can’t stand some of his buddies. The worst thing you can do is to make enemies of those in his close circle, because that will be embarrassing for him and awkward for you.

8. Keep a bit of mystery about yourself

Men love a bit of mystery, so don’t give everything away all at one go. Let him discover more and more about you, as time goes on, and then he will love the surprises and he will keep coming back to find out more.

9. Make him proud of you

Don’t be afraid to share your successes with him, because he will enjoy them as much as you do. Let him see that you can win and he will be so proud of you, he will love you even more. Most men like a woman who has ambition, drive and passion, and they will want to share that with you and help you achieve your goals.

10. Be there for him when he needs you

One of the hardest things for man to do is ask for help, so let him know that you are there, if he needs you, and then follow that promise up with action, if and when the moment comes. Men are not as half as tough as they make themselves out to be, so become his motivation and support, and will love you all the more for it.

ou can’t force a person to love you, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t things that you can do to help things along a little bit. Bitcoin Price Drops 4% as More ETFs Get Rejected.

Over the past 24 hours, the crypto market has dropped slightly in value, led by the 4 percent decline in the Bitcoin price. Ethereum, Ripple, and Bitcoin Cash fell by 5 percent.

The majority of analysts in the space have attributed the recent fall in the Bitcoin price to the rejection of several Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Almost immediately after the decision of the US SEC was released, the Bitcoin price dropped from $6,400 to $6,250. But, the market rebounded relatively quickly back to $6,450, showing some stability in the lower range of $6,000.

Bottoming Out at $6,000

As BitMEX CEO Arthur Hayes previously said, it is possible for Bitcoin to test the $5,000 region before initiating a rally. But, whether it is $5,000 or $6,000, what investors like Hayes emphasized is that Bitcoin will need a period of stability before it initiates a proper mid-term recovery and rally.

Bitcoin has shown the highest level of stability in the past 14 months in the month of August, remaining in the mid $6,000 region since August 8. While the price of BTC has been volatile in the mid-$6,000 region, it has been able to maintain stability in the $6,000 to $6,500 range.

The immediate recovery of BTC from the ETF disapproval by the US SEC was a positive sign of market stability and awareness, as most investors were aware that the ETFs which were rejected by the SEC were tradable instruments based on derivatives.

Structurally and conceptually, the ETFs filed by ProShares and Direxion are different from the ETFs filed by the Chicago Board Options Exchange (Cboe) and VanEck. The ETFs filed by Cboe and VanEck are said to have the highest probability of being approved by the SEC due to their decades of track record and the structure of their ETFs that are equipped with insurance, transaction monitoring, and transparent pricing system.

In early August, Kelly said that Bitcoin ETFs will be postponed to their final deadline in February of next year and given that there exists no incentive or reason for the SEC to aggressively approve the first Bitcoin ETF in the market, he said that investors should expect all ETFs to be delayed up until that point.

Kelly added that if the market falls because of ETF disapproval, then investors are overreacting, because ETFs will hit the US markets eventually.

“It [Bitcoin] has had a tremendous run off of $5,800, and that was all really because people thought there was going to be a Bitcoin ETF. The SEC came out and postponed that decision. A little spoiler alert, on September 30, SEC will likely postpone in again, because the market is not ready for it and the SEC hasn’t had the answers to their questions yet,” Kelly said at the time on CNBC’s Fast Money

Can you spot snake hiding in this photo? People baffled trying to find the sneaky creature

Living in the UK, the only unwelcome guests we might possibly find in our homes are usually mice or creepy crawlies.

But elsewhere in the world people need to much more careful and keep an eye out for any dangerous visitors.

Recentlya snake creeped into a home, a company was called out to help fetch out the snake.

And while they were there they decided to test their social media followers a bit, but asking them if they could spot the snake in a photo.

They wrote: "Spot the Snake!

"Time for another game of spot the snake. This cheeky customer was removed from a home in Ninderry today!

"Extra points for the species!"

People were quick to start guessing, with one asking if it's under the magazine on the chair.

Wrong.

Others just thought it was all a big prank, commenting: "There is no snake in this picture."

But eagle-eyed people soon spotted it.

Can you see it?

Look at the chair on the right, focusing on the back chair legs.

The little snake is curled around the bottom on the wooden leg.

Here's a cheat in case you still can't see it.

Reports: Real Madrid asked to pay €107m release clause for Spanish striker

What's the rumour?

Real Madrid have been enjoying life in Europe lately but things might start changing now as the club's talisman and record goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo is not with them anymore.

Dropping down from the expectations, Real Madrid haven't made any major signings in the past few years. They have lost the most lethal striking force in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo, and desperately need a striker to fill the void left by him.

Having a pale transfer window, Los Blancos' pursuit for a striker may finally come to an end in the coming days as Valencia have asked Madrid to pay Rodrigo's €107m release clause as that's the only way to land the striker in the Bernabeu, as per Mirror.uk.

Having suffered a defeat against local rivals Atletico in the Super Cup, Real Madrid are desperate to sign a striker and might trigger Rodrigo's release clause.

In case you didn't know...

Rodrigo Moreno is a young talented Spanish striker who has previously played under new Madrid boss, Julen Lopetegui. Moreno was also named in the 23-men Spanish squad for the World Cup 2018 in Russia. He also scored a goal in the World Cup qualifiers in just one appearance.

The centre-forward has bagged 16 league goals in the LaLiga 17-18 for Valencia. Recently, he scored a brilliant goal against Atletico in a 1-1 draw making Real Madrid want him more as they would try to build a new era without Ronaldo.

Los Blancos are willing to do anything to strengthen their squad and would be eager to clinch the deal.

The heart of the matter

Ever since Zinedine Zidane stepped down as Real Madrid's manager followed by Cristiano Ronaldo leaving for Juventus, it was obvious that Real Madrid were going to struggle in the coming season.

As a result, Real Madrid faced a humiliating defeat against city rivals Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup. It was a warning bell for Florentino Perez and Julen Lopetegui regarding their incomplete squad which needs to be enhanced.

The club fans are losing faith in the team as Real Madrid recorded their least attendance in a home match since 2009.

Los Blancos need to sign some brilliant players to further enhance their attacking abilities and try to get a little something from the ongoing season of football. Rodrigo is an ace striker given his moving abilities, finishing skills etc.

In terms of creations and build up, Real Madrid are still a top threat in Europe. However, they're lacking a lethal finisher and Rodrigo can fulfil their needs of a hungry striker.

Rumour rating/probability: 6/10

Express.uk is not one of the best sources for transfer news in world football. However, it could be true that Valencia wouldn't allow the player to leave for any less than his release clause being paid.

But given the needs and current situations in Real Madrid, Florentino Perez would surely consider to trigger Rodrigo's release clause. The rumour could turn into reality in the coming days.

Your brain tries to change focus 4 times per second

By the time you’re finished reading this sentence, your brain will have rapidly assessed your surroundings 14 times to see if you should focus on something else. At least, that’s what new research suggests.

This is a departure from the way we typically think our brains hold attention—neuroscientists have suggested that neurons fire in a consistent stream when you’re focusing on one thing (like reading this Gizmodo blog, for instance). The new research suggests it instead has a kind of rhythm, where neurons become less active four times per second. During those little blips, the researchers suggest your brain visually checks your surroundings for something more important to pay attention to—like maybe something exceptionally threatening (a clumsy coworker about to douse you in hot coffee) or interesting (a dog in the office).

“Your brain’s checking in on the rest of environment to see if it should focus on something else,” Ian Fiebelkorn, a study author and cognitive neuroscientist at Princeton University, told Gizmodo. “Not that it unfocuses, but to see if something else beats out your current focus.”

It would make sense that the brain works that way, from an evolutionary standpoint. To survive in this world, you’ve got to be constantly aware of potential dangers.

“It’s like if you’re going after this shiny red apple in a tree, you want to know if something bigger or with sharper teeth is also going for that apple,” Fiebelkorn said. “Yeah, you’re focused on the apple. But not so focused you don’t see danger coming.”

The researchers measured this hidden brain rhythm in both humans and macaques, as noted in a pair of studies published Wednesday in Neuron. Both studies had a near-identical setup, and included both humans and macaques who had electrodes implanted on their brains (the humans had received them as a part of epilepsy treatment). Either a monkey or human sat in front of a computer screen and was instructed to focus at one point in the middle of the screen. A camera monitored eye movements, so trials were thrown out if subjects shifted their gazes, which implied they’d also shifted their focus.

Then, very faint, nearly undetectable horizontal or vertical rectangles were briefly flashed on the screen. If a monkey detected the shape, it pulled a lever. (The macaques had previously been trained on this setup and rewarded with juice for successful lever pulls.) If a human detected the shape, he or she released the computer mouse button they’d been holding down. Throughout the trials, researchers used the electrodes to measure brain activity.

After analyzing the data on how the brain’s neurons behaved while a person or macaque was focusing on one thing, the researchers saw near-identical dips in neuron activity at a frequency of four times per second in both monkeys and humans. That extreme similarity across species could mean this brain rhythm exists in other primates, too. At the very least, it’s good validation that monkey studies on attention and brain activity can be translated to humans.

“The monkey is the typical animal model for understanding attention,” Fiebelkorn said. “But I can’t think of another example where it’s been checked in humans with the same exact study. Neural activities we discover in monkeys should be true in humans, and this is a rare case where we verified that.”

But the fact that only people with epilepsy were included in the study is a definite limitation. The researchers did point out, though, that because results were so similar between humans and monkeys, it’s likely that the results would also be similar between humans with and without epilepsy.

Continuing to understand these brain rhythms could be useful for studying attention deficit disorders. The team speculated that people who get hyper focused or very easily distracted at the hand of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) might be getting “stuck” in one of the two states of neuron activity described in their papers.

LeBron & Savanna

Only the finest for The King ...

LeBron James and his wife, Savannah, had a romantic date night in Bev Hills on Tuesday ... returning to one of his favorite restaurants in the city and TMZ Sports has the video.

The James' hit up Avra -- the same high-end Greek restaurant where Bron dined with Leonardo DiCaprio and Al Pacino last month.

No mixing with the normies for Bron and Vannah, they were ushered through the back by a security team into a waiting Maybach with a chauffeur.

We tried to talk Trump with the Los Angeles Lakers superstar, but he wasn't in the mood.

Earlier in the day, LeBron worked out at UCLA with some of his NBA superstar friends ... including Kevin DurantKawhi LeonardCedi Osman and Toronto Raptors assistant coach Phil Handy

The photo fueled rumors that Bron could be recruiting KD and Kawhi to form a superteam in L.A. next year.

But, last night, he was more focused on Chilean Sea Bass souvlaki ... $27 a dish.

Cryptocurrency May Be Treated As Commodity In India.

India is reportedly not going to issue a blanket ban on cryptocurrencies, but may label them as commodities, according to a source from India.

In a report from  one their media stations  India (Quartz) said, a senior government official, who requested anonymity, stated that they don’t think the panel set up to look into digital currencies ‘is really thinking of banning cryptocurrencies altogether,

He  said, “The issue here is about regulating the trade and we need to know where the money is coming from. Allowing it as (a) commodity may let us better regulate trade and so that is being looked at.”

Thailand Embarks on Its Own Wholesale Central Bank Digital Currency

In an announcement on Tuesday, the Bank of Thailand outlined a preliminary roadmap for ‘Project Inthanon’, its central bank digital currency (CBDC) initiative.

The Bank of Thailand (BoT), the country’s central bank, is partnering 8 participating banks in a collaborative project that will use R3’s distributed ledger technology (DLT) platform Corda to build a proof-of-concept prototype that will enable domestic funds transfers within the country’s interbanking system with the issue of CBDC tokens. The collective endeavor to that end is being dubbed as ‘Project Inthanon’.

The decentralized money transfer initiative, powered by blockchain technology, is a means to ‘raise the Thai financial sector’s technological readinesses for adopting new disruptive technologies in a concentrated effort to ‘enhance operational efficiencies’, the central bank said in its announcement.

Project Inthanon was first announced by BoT governor Veerathai Santiprabhob during a financial summit in Singapore earlier in June this year, heralding the project as a “new way of conducting interbank settlement” using CBDCs.

Project Inthanon will be led by the BOT and will see New York-based R3 as its technology partner with 8 – mostly domestic – participating banks. The CBDC project draws parallels to similar efforts undertaken by BOT’s counterparts in Canada, Hong Kong and Singapore, the Thai central bank added.

‘The outcome and insights from Project Inthanon will contribute to the design of Thailand’s future financial market infrastructure,’ the BoT said, underlining the significance of the project.

Over a year ago, Singapore’s central bank completed Phase 1 of ‘Project Ubin’, its own blockchain effort that began with the intent to place “a tokenized form of the Singapore Dollar (SGD) on a distributed ledger platform.’ In June 2017, the Singaporean central bank revealed it had used a private Ethereum blockchain to successfully issue digital tokens of its national currency.

Phase 1 of Project Inthanon will see the BOT and the eight participating banks collaborate to design, develop and test a “proof-of-concept prototype for domestic wholesale funds transfer by using wholesale CBDC”, the central bank said. Core payment functionalities including risk management and means toward liquidity savings will also be tested during the phase, expected to be completed by March 2019.

The BOT confirmed it would subsequently publish a summary of the project, before outlining goals for the next phase of its central bank digital currency token.

The central bank said:

Building upon the findings and outcomes from Phase 1, the project participants aim to further develop the capabilities of the prototype for broader functions including third party funds transfer and cross-border funds transfer.

Uber

Uber is close to reaching a final settlement relating to several sexual harassment and discrimination claims.

The firm will pay $1.9m (£1.5m) to 56 current and former workers who claim they were victims of sexual harassment.

In addition, 485 people will receive an average of nearly $11,000 as part of a class action case of discrimination on the basis of gender and race.

The payouts will be part of the taxi-hailing company's total settlement of $10m, which was agreed in March.

The class action case is being led by two Latina engineers who allege they were paid less than their white, Asian and male colleagues.

The pair filed their legal claim against Uber in October 2017, claiming they suffered harassment and a hostile work environment due to their gender and ethnicity.

However, before the payouts can be made the settlement needs to get court approval and members of the class action have a right to object.

So far, no one has objected and only two people have dropped out of the process.

In a statement, Uber said it agreed with the plaintiff's motion, and that the amounts it would have to pay out were "fair, reasonable, and adequate".

A lawyer who negotiated the settlement on behalf of the employees, Jahan Sagafi, said his legal firm was "happy that the settlement approval process is progressing as planned".

"We can pay class members for these discrimination and harassment claims and begin the three-year effort to monitor Uber's implementation of the HR improvements," Mr Sagafi added.

In addition to the legal case, Uber is being investigated by US authorities for gender discrimination.

Last month, Uber's head of human resources Liane Hornsey resigned following an internal investigation into how she handled racial discrimination claims within the company.

A hearing to make final approval of the settlement is due to be heard by a California court on 6 November.

The harassment and discrimination claims are among a string of issues that Uber's management has faced in the past year.

Whilst some of the company's issues have since been resolved, they include losing its licence to operate in London and a civil lawsuit in the US filed by a woman who accused Uber executives of improperly obtaining her medical records after she was raped by a driver in India.

HTC EXODUS: First native blockchain smartphone

 HTC Exodus is the name of "the first native blockchain smartphone";

The company isn’t saying much else about the device, but its new ‘chief decentralizing officer’ Phil Chen told The Verge that its cost would be comparable to the $1,000 price of the upcoming Finney blockchain phone from Sirin Labs.

HTC is also partnering with CryptoKitties, a blockchain-based game that sees you collect and breed virtual cats, to bring the title to its Exodus device, along with a digital wallet.

It remains to be seen if this strategy will help HTC save its troubled business. Its sales were down by 68 percent in June, the biggest drop it’s seen in the past two years. Its recent U12+ flagship was also poorly received, despite packing a highly rated camera.

The company laid offe 1,500 people from its manufacturing unit in Taiwan in a bid to save itself. That follows an effort to raise money in a $1.1 billion deal last year, when it shipped off some 2,000 employees to Google, who were then believed to be tasked with developing the Pixel hardware line. With that, it’s left with far fewer of its best engineers and designers than a few years ago.

The most intresting feature of the announced smartphone seems to be a full integrated cryptocurrency hardware wallet that could handle the main cryptocurrency's like Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum and other coins.

While we don’t know much about the Exodus, it’s safe to say that an awfully expensive handset that touts a cryptocurrency hardware wallet as its key feature – at a time when interest in digital currencies is waning – is likely to appeal only to a niche audience. It’s hard to pin one’s hopes on rescuing HTC with something like that. As a longtime fan of the brand, I hope it can prove me wrong.

If you’re keen on owning an Exodus, you can register your interest on HTC’s new site for the device.

Soccer Body UEFA Scores ‘Successful’ Blockchain Ticketing Trial.

The Union of European Football Associations, or UEFA as it’s more commonly known, has just announced the completion of a “successful” trial of a mobile ticketing app built with blockchain.

Aimed to make ticket sales for soccer matches “more simple and safe,” the effort saw the organization test the app at this week’s UEFA Super Cup match between Real Madrid and Atletico de Madrid in the Estonian capital, Tallinn.

The system, UEFA said on its website, is designed to provide secure ticket distribution that can prevent forgery and duplication of tickets.

The trial notably saw UEFA distribute all of the tickets for the Tallinn match that had been sold to the public via the blockchain-based app for iOS and Android.

The ticket distribution system, it said, worked in combination with mobile Bluetooth devices at the entrances of the football stadium.

The full test followed what UEFA called “fine-tuning and improvements” following previous partial trials, including one that distributed 50 percent of tickets at a match in Lyon, France.

Ripple Partners with Three Crypto Exchanges as Part of XRapid Solution.

A Serbian and Italian national has been ordered to pay bail in cryptocurrency while he faces charges that he hacked the computer network of a San Francisco game company.

According to a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office, an FBI investigation found that an individual, later alleged to be Martin Marsich, had illegally breached the gaming firm’s network, gaining access to around 25,000 accounts through which users could buy in-game items.

As well as allegedly using stolen information to buy and sell in-game items, Marsich is also accused of selling access to the accounts on dark market websites, in total causing claimed losses of $324,000 to the company. The firm apparently closed the affected accounts after the intrusion was discovered, the report says.

The accused made an initial appearance at a federal court in San Francisco on Aug. 9, after reportedly being arrested at San Francisco International Airport while trying to board a flight to Serbia.

At the hearing, Magistrate Judge Corley said Marsich could be released to a halfway house on the condition that he hands over bail of cryptocurrency to the value of $750,000.

According to a report from The Daily Post, Assistant District Attorney Abraham Simmons said it was likely not the first time cryptocurrency had been allowed to be put up for bail, since judges can accept other assets such as real estate.

Simmons was quoted as saying:

“It really is quite broad. The judge could order just about anything. What the objective is is to get the defendant to comply with an order to appear later.”

Marsich faces a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment and a fine of $250,000 if found guilty, the Attorney’s Office

Police Arrest Hackers Suspected of Stealing $87 Million in Crypto.

Chinese police from multiple cities have arrested three individuals who allegedly stole bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies worth around $87 million.

On Saturday that the three were busted on Aug.15 in the provinces of Hunan and Changchun and the country’s capital Beijing after a months-long investigation launched by the police.

According to the report, a self-declared victim, identified by the surname Zhang, first filed a complaint to the police in the northwestern city of Xi’an in March, alleging his computer had been hacked and crypto assets worth around $14.5 million stolen.

The police investigation, which received assistance from several unnamed internet companies, later located a suspect with the surname Zhou, who they claimed had made a remote attack to transfer the funds from Zhang’s computer.

As the investigation continued, the police further identified two alleged accomplices of Zhou that they said were highly experienced hackers.

The group was further accused of having conducted a series of illegal cyber intrusions into corporate and personal networks to obtain crypto assets initially estimated to amount to 600 million Yuan, or about $87 million.

The arrests come at a time when Chinese police are stepping up efforts to crack down on cybercrimes relating to cryptocurrency.

Just a month ago, police in China’s Dalian city also arrested 20 suspects from an IT firm who allegedly used crypto mining malware to infect over a million computers and reportedly earned more than $2 million over two years.

Titanic Gold Cigarette Case Could Fetch Over 75K At Auction

A gold cigarette case with a connection to the Titanic is grabbing the attention of all types of antique collectors curious about its scandalous history as the artifact heads for an auction in September.

The original owners of the cigarette case were Sir Cosmo and fashion designer Lady Duff-Gordon — the very wealthy married couple that is said to have bribed their way off the sinking Titanic by paying a very lofty sum.

“In the aftermath of the tragedy, the couple was accused of buying their way off the boat, a story inflamed by the tabloid press. But at a British Board of Trade inquiry into the disaster, where the couple testified, Sir Cosmo was adamant he’d given the money as a gesture of goodwill to help the men. However, mud sticks and they were tainted by the incident for the rest of their lives,” The London Economic quoted Hansons Auctioneers’ owner Charles Hanson as saying.

The RMS Titanic collided with an iceberg at 11:40 p.m. ship’s time on April 14, 1912, sinking just a couple of hours later in the early hours of April 15, with more than 1,500 people still aboard. Just over 700 people managed to survive this tragic maritime disaster.

The gold cigarette case was gifted by Duff-Gordons to Ernest G. F. Brown, a purser on board the RMS Carpathia — a ship that arrived just under two hours after the Titanic sank to bring aboard the survivors.

The case has an inscription: ‘Ernest G F Brown RNR, in remembrance of kindness. SS Carpathia, from Sir Cosmo and Lady Duff-Gordon’. Brown was also awarded a gold medal for his pivotal role in the Titanic rescue operation.

“It really is a titanic find, a glint of light and romanticism among a tragedy,” Hanson said. “This couple was the glitterati of Edwardian society and it was gifted as a thank you to the man who helped save them.”

The cigarette case was unexpectedly discovered in a cupboard at a property in southern England after being forgotten about for 70 years.

“It was found hidden in a cupboard during a house clearance and the couple had no idea of its significance,” Hanson said. “This cigarette case in its own right is a wonderful object but its provenance sends its importance soaring to titanic heights.”

Duff-Gordons were able to grab Titanic’s Lifeboat Number 1, which was lowered down into the water with just 12 people on it, despite having the capacity to carry 40, which led British press to dub the boat ‘millionaires’ boat.’

“As the Titanic sank, it was claimed Lucy Duff-Gordon said to her secretary, ‘There is your beautiful nightdress gone’,” Hanson said. “A fireman, allegedly annoyed by her comment, replied that while the couple could replace their property, he and the other crew members had lost everything. Sir Cosmo then offered each of the men £5 (now equaling to £454 [$579]) to aid them.”

The artifact, which is estimated to be sold for somewhere between £40,000 (USD$51,000) to £60,000 (USD$77,000), will be auctioned off by Hansons Auctioneers in September.

UPS Eyes Blockchain in Bid to Track Global Shipping Data

Shipping giant UPS has filed for a new patent that uses blockchain as part of a distributed system for sending packages worldwide.

The patent application, published on Aug. 16 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), further reveals the company’s interest in using blockchain to re-envision how shipments move around the world.

Entitled “Autonomous services selection system and distributed transportation database(s),” the concept involves storing numerous types of data within a distributed ledger network, including information about a package’s destination, its movement and transportation plans for shipment units.

As previous report stated, UPS joined a transportation-focused blockchain consortium in 2017 and has even hinted at the idea of accepting bitcoin through a proposed system of item-exchange lockers.

Notably, UPS suggests using more than one distributed ledger in an effort to track a range of shipment orders, “each providing varying information/data regarding respective asset types (e.g., shipment units and/or associated shipment units).”

“Thus, certain embodiments enable tracking of a first set of shipment units and a second set of shipment units associated with the first set of shipment units separately, thereby enabling the use of various smart contracts relating to shipping services and shipment unit handling in a bifurcated manner,” the company wrote.

That the company would look at different ways to enhance the process through which it moves shipments around the world is perhaps unsurprising, given its scale. UPS shipped more than 5 billion packages and documents last year, according to its website, earning $54 billion in revenue

Bitcoin Price Shows Stability as Crypto Market Sees Minor $6 Billion Drop

Over the past 24 hours, the crypto market has lost $6 billion from its valuation, experiencing a slight drop after a solid corrective rally by Bitcoin.

While Bitcoin recorded a small gain of 0.5 percent, other major cryptocurrencies including Ethereum, Ripple, Bitcoin Cash, EOS, Stellar, Litecoin, and Cardano fell by 1 to 4 percent, affecting the token market.

Volatility of Tokens

On August 17, as the price of BTC showed a rapid recovery from $5,850 to $6,400, tokens recorded massive gains in the range of 30 to 80 percent, with VeChain increasing by over 80 percent against the US dollar.

However, as BTC stabilized in the mid-$6,000 region and other major cryptocurrencies struggled to sustain their momentum on the upside, tokens suffered. In the past 24 hours, Aion, DigixDAO, OmiseGO, BAT, and 0x fell by more than 6 percent against the US dollar and Bitcoin.

Yesterday, on August 19, CCN reported that the fall in the price of tokens in the past 48 hours can be attributed to the overly aggressive trades initiated by investors in the crypto market that considered the minor corrective rally of Bitcoin to be the start of a bull run.

Consequently, many traders reallocated their funds from Bitcoin, which has performed relatively well against the US dollar in the past month as seen in the rise of its dominance index, to tokens and high-risk high-return trades.

Some tokens including Ontology, Tezos, and Nano recorded solid 10 to 20 percent gains, but have fallen throughout the day due to the lack of momentum in Ether and other major cryptocurrencies.

In a bear market or downtrend, the dominance index of Bitcoin tends to increase as investors consider BTC to be a store of value in the cryptocurrency market. As such, in the past few months, apart from some exceptions including Binance Coin (BNB), Bitcoin has been one of the better performing cryptocurrencies.

In the past 24 hours, the dominance index of BTC has increased from 51 percent to 52 percent. A one percent increase is a minor movement, but considering that the market has been overly optimistic in the short-term trend of crypto throughout this week, the continuous increase in the dominance of BTC is important to consider.

Low Volume

The volume of Bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies tend to be extremely volatile. The volume of BTC could remain in the $4 billion region and suddenly rise to over $6 billion within 24 hours, especially during corrective rallies.

But, the volume of BTC has fallen below the $4 billion mark, a level the market has not seen in the past two weeks. As of August 20, the volume of Bitcoin and Ethereum remain at $3.5 billion and $1.5 billion, less than half of their volume in June.

In the short-term, it is crucial for Bitcoin to sustain its current stability, allowing the market to establish a bottom at the lower price range. If BTC suddenly rises by large margins, it could lead the market to record overbought conditions.

New Partnership Enables Automatic Bill Payments Using Bitcoin in Australia.

Australians wishing to pay their bills in cryptocurrencies do not have to be held back by the fact that their utility or service provider is stuck with traditional methods of payment.

This follows the formation of a partnership between two financial technology firms, cryptocurrency exchange Cointree and automated billing platform Gobbill, allowing the payment of bills using cryptocurrencies. Under the deal Gobbill will perform the functions of an intermediary under the agreement taking users’ funds and paying bills on their behalf.

The deal will allow users of the two platforms to pay their bills using the digital assets stored in Cointree’s wallet. Currently, Cointree supports 40 cryptocurrencies and this includes the major ones such as bitcoin, ether, XRP, NEO and litecoin.

Households and Small Enterprises

Additionally, users of the Gobbill platform will be able to link their cryptocurrency wallet to their accounts and have their bills paid using a specified cryptocurrency. The service is mainly aimed at small businesses and households. According to the co-founder and CEO of Gobbill, Shendon Ewans, the initiative is aimed at meeting existing and anticipated demand.

“We anticipate a surge in the number of customers who would like to pay their bills in crypto in the coming years,” said Ewans in a statement. “Our partnership with Cointree will cater to this market and ensure Gobbill continues to remain ahead of the curve when it comes to allowing our users to pay their bills automatically, while knowing they’re protected from fraud and scams.”

Robust Cryptocurrency Usage

Prior to the partnership, Cointree, which boasts of approximately 100 million transactions since it was founded five years ago, already had a service which allows users to pay bills using cryptocurrencies. With the collaboration, it is hoped that the use of cryptocurrencies in paying bills will only grow. On Cointree’s bill-payment service the performance has been encouraging for the startup which is only a few years old.

“Last year alone we had about AU$100 million of bills paid and saw ten times growth in this payment feature,” the operations manager of Cointree, Jess Rendon, told The Australian Financial Review in an interview.

18-year-old pushes friend off 60-foot bridge.

The 18-year-old who pushed her teenage friend off a 60-foot bridge in Washington state, leaving her with multiple injuries, has been charged with one count of reckless endangerment.

Prosecutors filed the charge Friday, with a declaration of probable cause from the arresting officer stating in part, "it is clear that Taylor Smith engaged in conduct which created a substantial risk of death and resulted in serious physical injury to Jordan Holgerson."

Reckless endangerment is considered a gross misdemeanor that is punishable by up to a year in jail and a maximum fine of $5,000.

"I accept the charges maturely and all I can do is hope for the best for Jordan and myself," Smith told ABC News late Friday.

Smith pushed Holgerson, 16, off a bridge over the Lewis River at Moulton Falls Regional Park near Vancouver, Washington, Aug. 7. Holgerson plunged the equivalent of three stories before belly-flopping into the water below. She suffered "significant injuries" including six broken ribs, a punctured lung and air bubbles in her chest, officials said.

The incident was captured on a cellphone video that went viral on social media but has since been removed. Surveillance camera video also shows the moment Smith shoved Holgerson off the bridge ledge.

Smith told "GMA" that she immediately reached out to Holgerson after the incident and "apologized several times," and even tried to visit her in the hospital but was "asked to leave."

Holgerson has since stopped communicating with her, Smith said.

The two were "pretty close" friends for years, she added.

"I love that girl," Smith said during Friday's interview. "I never intended to hurt her ever, nor would I intend to hurt anyone. I'm really sorry it turned out that way. I just pray that she heals and gets better."

Investigators from the Clark County Sheriff's Office wrapped up their probe of the incident earlier this week and turned over their finding to prosecutors, who announced the reckless endangerment charge Friday afternoon.

Earlier, Smith told "GMA" that the prospect of facing charges is "scary" but she will "accept whatever the prosecutor gives me."

"I accept whatever the prosecutors think is best for me, considering I caused not only bodily harm but emotional trauma as well," she said. "But I just hope for the best."

Trump reverses Obama-era rules for US cyber operations

The Trump administration has reportedly reversed an Obama-era framework for how and when the US can use cyber attacks against foes. President Trump undid Presidential Policy Directive 20 yesterday according to the Wall Street Journal's sources, and with it reversed a classified framework detailing a multi-agency process that must be followed before carrying out an attack.

The directive was put in place to prevent against bungling multi-year cyber-espionage plans that may be in motion, thus having many agencies involved with the planning process of any attack.

"It wasn't clear what rules the administration is adopting to replace the Obama directive," WSJ writes. "A number of current US officials confirmed the directive had been replaced but declined to comment further, citing the classified nature of the progress."

The moves to undo the directive apparently began in April when John Bolton took up the mantle of national security advisor. The previous administration's cybersecurity coordinator Michael Daniel described the directive to the WSJ as "designed to ensure that all appropriate equities got considered when you thought about doing an offensive cyber operation."

There's a worry that the directive was dismantled too quickly, and as a result people are concerned because the Trump administration hasn't outlined its replacement to those involved. Given this administration's history of putting laws into place seemingly without considering the consequences, coupled with Trump's contempt for the intelligence community, the lawmakers' concerns aren't unfounded.
